Kahungunu Health -
Choices was established in 1995. The Organisation employs a Manager, a staff of
seven and the services of a general practitioner. The region covered by
Kahungunu Health is Hastings and its surrounding area – Havelock North,
Flaxmere, Napier and Central Hawkes Bay. The funded health
services provided are: Maternity services General Practitioner service Tamariki Ora – Well-child Immunisation Sexual Health –
(contraception and referrals for terminations) Cervical Smears Smoking Cessation Health care plans – healthy
lifestyles Integrated Asthma Integrated Diabetes Community Development services
provided without funding are: Assistance with benefits Housing problems Relationship problems Advocacy with WINZ and other
agencies Transport to scans, laboratory Specialist appointments Kahungunu Health – Choices has
4,500 registered clients, of which the majority are Maori.
