Ko Tou Ariki was established as a Charitable Trust in 1989 and began providing a
funded mental health service with the Hawkes Bay Area Health Board in 1991. The
Organisation employs a Manawhakahaere and thirteen staff. The regional coverage
is within the Napier District – from the Ngaruroro River in the South, to the
Waikare River in the North, and to the West along the Napier Taupo road as far
as Tarawera. Hine Kou Tou Ariki provides health services in the following areas:
Community Mental Health support
services (Nga Oranga o te Rae) for adult and child/adolescents (CAFS) Level 3 and 24 hour supported
residential service (7 beds) Marae based recreational and
rehabilitation kaupapa Maori day activities programme Community addictions support
service Community Development services
provided without funding are: Maori Rongoa (Te Huarahi o te
ora ki Ahuriri) Respite care, planned, crisis
and acute Informal residential
accommodation (20 beds) Hine Ko Tou Ariki have 60
registered Tangata Whaiora clients and 600 registered Maori Rongoa clients with
800 consultations annually.
